The Mirror - Invitation to Grow

At Church on Sunday, our Reverend Rick Harrell made a bold statement. He repeated it several times, and it resonated with me: "Change is inevitable, but growth is optional." Previously, I have written a few thoughts about growth, and I want to share them.

Many physics gurus would share that a bumblebee should not be able to fly. The bumblebee physically should not be able to get itself off the ground due to the mere size and span of its own wings.  The bumblebee continues to be a miracle of nature, and I feel that our journeys as humans are similar to that of a bumblebee. Physically, we should not be able to accomplish as much as we do in our day to day existence. We should be grateful for our resilience, strategy, and motivation. One can surpass expectations by focusing on the underlying yearning to grow and evolve.

In life, we are provided the opportunity to take two paths. We can call it the "Y" in the road. One path is accepting the current and present and how you have always been taught, including what you have learned and how you have responded to the world around you. The other path is unknown; it is new and feels unsafe. It is uncomfortable, and if one person chooses one path over another, that does not make either one right or wrong, but it does invite someone to grow. With that invitation, you can build a better life and live more authentically. Let us focus on the many moments in our lives where we are invited to grow. I intentionally use the word "invitation" because you will be presented with opportunities to grow. Remember growth is optional. One can choose to respond and grow, or one could choose to remain stagnant. Only those open to the invitation of growth will be genuinely transformed. I invite you all to grow.
