The Mirror - Meditating at the Gas Station
We keep our lives so busy that we forget to make time for ourselves. We are on a perpetual hamster wheel of chasing the next thing. It could be money, a relationship, career advancement, or feeding an addiction. We focus all of our energy on the big stuff and forget to take time for the little things. The little things keep us well-oiled and ready to conquer each day with a happy heart. We need to focus on the little things that keep us going.
Last week, when I started the post, I had no idea I would pass my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Exam (PMHNP)! The entire context of the post was that I took advantage of the few minutes I had while filling up the gas tank and decided to meditate while I pumped gas. I had a full meditation session for five minutes, sitting down as gas flowed into my car. I am sure many people passing by either thought I was sleeping or just odd, but that was the only time I had throughout the day, and the day was slipping away. I made time for ME.
The key is to tap into our internal resources to propel us in the direction we desire. Sometimes, it's about being resourceful and finding the path that leads to 'YES, I CAN DO THIS '. We often get stuck in a loop of reasons why we can't achieve something, which leads to stagnation. Instead, focus on the 'YES' in life. Showing up for ourselves is never a waste of time. It's about feeling confident and capable, knowing that we have what it takes to move forward.
There are times when we find ourselves in challenging situations, ticking off the daily tasks that keep our minds and bodies in sync. As one of my favorite authors, James Clear, rightly puts it, we must show up for ourselves, even if we can't give our 100% best effort. The crucial thing is that we showed up for ourselves. This act of self-recognition and self-care is what truly matters, making us feel valued and significant.
Ultimately, life isn't about the relentless pursuit of significant milestones but about the small, intentional moments we create for ourselves each day. These moments of self-care, like a few minutes of meditation while pumping gas, remind us that we can reset, recharge, and refocus, no matter how chaotic life gets. Showing up for ourselves nurtures our well-being and reinforces that we are worth our time and effort. So, let's remember to prioritize these small acts; they keep us grounded, empowered, and ready to face whatever lies ahead with resilience and joy.
